NARI Certification

For the last decade, NARI's Certification Program has provided the Remodeling Industry with a formalized standard of expertise, knowledge and ethical conduct among Professional Remodelers. Prized by those who have achieved the designation, NARI's Certification Programs give comfort to consumers because it identifies Remodelers who have undergone a detailed review and testing in areas of business management, ethical conduct and technical skills. The six NARI Certification Designations are as follows:

  • Certified Remodeler (CR)
  • Certified Remodeler Specialist (CRS)
  • Certified Remodeler Associate (CRA)
  • Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (CKBR)
  • Certified Lead Carpenter (CLC)
  • Certified Remodeling Carpenter (CRC)


Certification Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently employed by, or own a firm engaged in the Remodeling Industry
  • Applicants must have been employed in the Remodeling Industry for a period of five years
  • Applicants must submit a comprehensive qualification matrix detailing industry background and experience along with a notarized affidavit regarding his or her record of experience and/or letters of recommendation
  • Applicants must successfully complete a one-day written competency exam developed by the University of Illinois. Most applicants attend one of NARI's structured study groups prior to taking the exam

 

Certification Descriptions:

  • NARI CR's are Professional Remodelers who provide a full range of remodeling services. To become a CR, candidates must possess skill and knowledge in a broad range of business management and technical skill areas.
  • NARI CRS's are Professional Remodelers who focus on specific types of work and serve the needs of homeowners interested in their area of technical excellence, such as concrete and masonry, electrical, insulation, mechanical systems, plumbing systems, or roofing and siding.
  • NARI CKBR's provide remodeling services specific to kitchens and bathrooms. To become a CKBR, candidates must possess skills and knowledge focused on the requirement of materials, layout and installation of these areas.
  • NARI CRA's actively support the Remodeling Industry in professions such as architects, designers, manufacturers, suppliers and consultants.
  • NARI CLC's are the hands-on Field Personnel who oversee every aspect of the Project: customer satisfaction, personnel management, administration, etc. while working on each Project.

Applicants who achieve certification must complete continuing education requirements to retain their designations.
